Unlocking sustainable marine, river, and terrestrial resource management to drive economic growth, climate resilience, and youth- and women-led innovation across coastal communities.
The Blue and Green Economy Roundtable Southern Africa (BGERSA) is a youth and women-focused initiative targeting coastal communities. We promote sustainable development, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration in utilizing ocean, river, lake, and terrestrial resources for economic upliftment and environmental health.
Coastal populations in Southern Africa depend heavily on marine and aquatic ecosystems. BGERSA bridges the gap between youth and women's energy and policy execution, preparing young leaders and women aged 18 to 35 to drive real-world solutions.
BGERSA's local community initiatives directly support continental macro-strategies designed to secure Africa's sustainable aquatic and environmental future.
Endorsed by the African Union, the strategy prioritizes fisheries, aquaculture, maritime transport, and the conservation of ocean and river ecosystems. BGERSA localizes these pillars to tackle illegal fishing and enhance community-based maritime and river-based value chains.
In alignment with the AU's recovery framework, BGERSA champions nature-based solutions, climate finance accessibility, renewable energy awareness, and green jobs for young entrepreneurs across Southern Africa.
